Workshop Space in Vienna: What a Creative Workshop Needs
Movable furniture, adjustable light, materials and room to move: what to look for in a workshop space in Vienna, with a sample day for a creative workshop.
A creative workshop moves through different phases in a single day: input, ideas, group work, presentations, decisions. A room that only works for one of these phases slows the group down. When you look for a workshop space in Vienna, four questions help you find out whether a room will support your day.
Four things to look for
1. Can the furniture be rearranged?
Group work, presentations and a circle of chairs each need a different setup. Ask which layouts are possible and whether the room can be changed during the day without a long break. Furniture that can be moved easily lets you follow the rhythm of your agenda.
2. Can you adjust the light?
During a presentation, the screen should be easy to read and people should be able to take notes. For a discussion round or a reflective phase, softer light can help. Dimmable lighting lets you match the light to each part of the day.
3. Are materials available?
Creative work needs space to write, sort and display ideas: flipcharts, whiteboards, pinboards, cards and markers. Check what is provided and what you need to bring. Running out of pinboard space in the middle of a session is a common frustration.
4. Is there room to move?
Ideas often come when people change position: from the table to the pinboard, from the main room to a quieter corner, from inside to a short break outside. A space with more than one area to work in, and somewhere to step out for a few minutes, keeps energy up during a long day.
Further points to check
Technology: How do you connect laptops to the screen? Is there wireless casting? Are there microphones if the group is large or people join online?
Catering: Is coffee available throughout the day? Can lunch be served in the space so the group stays together?
Location: How easy is it to reach by public transport? Send directions with your invitation.
Viewing: Visit the space before you book, ideally at the time of day your workshop will take place.
A sample day for a creative workshop
Here is how a full-day workshop for around 15 people could look. Adjust timings and breaks to your group.
- 08:30 Arrival and coffee
- 09:00 Opening in a circle of chairs: goals for the day, short check-in round
- 09:45 First working block in three small groups, each with a clear question
- 11:00 Break
- 11:20 Rotation: groups build on each other’s results
- 12:30 Lunch in the space
- 13:30 Plenary discussion of the morning’s output; decisions and priorities
- 15:00 Synthesis: actions, owners and timelines
- 15:30 End, or an informal drink for those who want to stay
Workshops at LOFT1080
LOFT1080 is a 90 m² loft on two levels in Vienna’s Josefstadt district, for groups of 10 to 35. The main level has a meeting table, a lounge and a 65-inch screen. A few steps up, on the platform, there is a large worktable, a 55-inch screen and a bar. Behind a glass sliding door lies a green courtyard for breaks when the weather allows.
For the four points above:
- Furniture: Possible layouts include conference, U-shape, circle of chairs and lounge. If your format changes during the day, the team rearranges the room.
- Light: The professional lighting is dimmable and suitable for photo and video.
- Materials: Flipchart, whiteboard, pinboards, a facilitation kit and markers are provided.
- Room to move: You can switch between the main level, the platform and, in suitable weather, the courtyard.
Wireless casting via AirPlay and Miracast, HDMI and USB-C, radio microphones, a sound system and Wi-Fi for 35 simultaneous connections are included. Catering depends on the package, from coffee, tea and snacks with ALL IN to a business buffet with CULINARIUM. You can find details on the packages page.
The loft is at Lange Gasse 50/2, about five minutes’ walk from the U2 Rathaus station and about 15 minutes from U6 Josefstädter Straße. Trams 2, 5 and 12 stop nearby.
